You are warmly invited to our Christmas Family Service at 10.15am on Christmas Day. This has always been a time of much festive fun as we celebrate the birth of Jesus. Why not bring a present to show us or a corny Christmas cracker joke.
For those who wish to remain after the family service there will be a short and informal Christmas Holy Communion at 11am.
On Saturday 1st October 2022 “The Madding Crowd” are coming to St Mary’s Church, Amport to sing for us again starting at 7.30pm
They perform church and secular music of the English village bands and choir from the period 1660 to 1861, and their theme will be “harvest”. They are an extremely amusing and enjoyable group who really bring a “Joie de vivre” to the music.
Tickets for the concert cost £10 (£5 for under 16s) and will be in aid of new sound equipment for the church.
On Tuesday 6th September, The Revd Philippa Good was licenced as Priest in Charge of the Portway and Danebury benefice which includes the parishes of Amport, Grateley, Monxton, Quarley, Nether Wallop and Over Wallop.
Phillipa and her family are now living in the rectory at Over Wallop.
Contact details can be found on the Monxton Matters website.
The Revd Philippa Good, ‘Phili’, was born in Esher and brought up in Salisbury. She is married to Charles and has four children. Edward (26, living and working in Hong Kong), Peter (24, just finished his degree and has started a PGCE, married with a baby), John (16, just finished GCSEs and starting A-Levels), and Emma (14 and in Year 10). She also has three dogs (one Jack Russell and two Labs) and a cat.
Phili trained for ministry through the Portsmouth Pathway, a Diocesan based course which is linked to Cuddesdon Theological College and uses the Durham Awards programme. Her Curacy was spent in Farlington, near Portsmouth where the term ‘I have had an idea’ was first heard and kindly joined in with!
Her previous job was in the Meon Valley, between Winchester and Petersfield, looking after four churches, learning to balance the needs of differing rural churches and locations and exploring further where her ministry would take her.
When Phili isn’t busy around the parish, she can probably be found walking the dogs, being creative in the kitchen or with crafts for assemblies and sermons, working in the garden or quite possibly paddling in a chalk stream somewhere, being peaceful with God and listening for His word. Oh, and singing!
Message from Jenny Lelan : “The Andover foodbank would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has donated food and non-food items over the past few weeks. The Andover foodbank continues to be extremely busy. In the month of March we gave out a total of 139 single boxes and 127 family boxes – double pre-pandemic levels – and this week we have helped our first family of Ukrainian refugees. We are working closely with the local council to ensure that they have everything they need when they arrive in our community.”
This week the Andover foodbank is urgently in need of the following food items: Tinned Fish, Tinned Meat, Tinned Fruit & Long Life Fruit Juice”
For several years St Mary’s Church Monxton have been supporting the Andover Food Bank and there is a collection point for food items in the church. Alternatively, there are collection boxes in most Andover supermarkets.
Understandably, the current financial situation has meant that less food is being donated and consequently the Foodbank has had to resort to purchasing necessary items to deal with the extra demand. Any help with donating food or money would be very welcome. Food items (not money) can be left in church and will be taken to the Foodbank on a weekly basis or if this is a problem, please call 01264 710641so that collection can be arranged.
Please join us for a service this Sunday at 11am to celebrate Mothering Sunday. Everyone is very welcome and there will be refreshments in church after the service.
