| On 6th May 2021, there will be elections across Hampshire. Your vote makes a difference to the way your community and police force is run. Whilst polling stations will be open in May for voting in-person, due to COVID many people may be considering voting by post for the first time. Each year more people are choosing to vote by post. Once you have registered for a postal vote, the council will send your ballot paper to your home address two weeks before Election Day. You simply vote from the comfort of your own home and send the ballot paper back to the council in the freepost envelope they will provide. If you forget to post your vote, or change your mind, you can always hand in your completed ballot at your local polling station. To apply for a postal vote, simply complete and sign the application form which must be received by Test Valley Borough Council no later than Tuesday 20th April 2021. . |
As most people may be aware, National Census Day is on the 21 March.
As part of this, households across the UK are currently receiving letters which include an unique 16-digit code to access the census online.
Criminals may try to use this as an opportunity to send out phishing emails or texts. Below is advice from our Action Fraud partners:
* You will only be contacted about the census via letter – never email, text or phone.
* When filling out the census you will be asked for personal details such as your date of birth, your occupation and where you live. You will never be asked to provided your national insurance numbers or financial details.
For information about the census, please visit: https://census.gov.uk/

Letters inviting residents to take part in the Census 2021 are arriving in the post. The once-in-a-decade survey gives the most accurate estimate of all the people and households in England and Wales and the information you give helps decide how services are planned and funded in your local area. Although Census day is on Sunday 21 March, you can complete your form now. Your letter contains a household access code that you need to complete the census online. Be prepared. Groundwater flooding is possible in Amport and Monxton.
Groundwater levels are high. From today (10/03/21) to Monday (15/03/21) small amounts of rain are forecast. Whilst we were expecting the groundwater to peak imminently, further rain may keep levels rising into next week . As the groundwater peaks, there is a small chance that it will be high enough to impact 1-2 cellars. Any impact would be relatively short lived, as more settled weather next week, should mean that levels finally begin to fall. We continue to monitor the forecast. If you use pumps to help reduce water levels, please ensure they can operate. This message will be updated by 17/03/2021.

What you should consider doing now
———————————————
* Monitor local water levels and weather conditions.
* Prepare a flood kit of essential items including a torch with spare batteries, mobile phone and charger, warm clothes, home insurance documents, water, food, first aid kit and any prescription medicines or baby care items you may need.
* Check that you know how to turn off your gas, electricity and water mains supplies.
* Avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water. 30 cm of fast-flowing water can move a car and 6 inches can knock an adult off their feet.
* Flood water is dangerous and may be polluted. Wash your hands thoroughly if you’ve been in contact with it.
