Dogs and Hot Cars

This week the police, RSPCA and the Dog Warden have all been called to dogs suffering in hot cars.

Please do not take your dogs out and leave them in cars even on a mild day. It takes less than 15 minutes for your dog to die in a hot car.

If it’s warm enough for you to leave the house without a jacket, it’s too warm to leave your dog in the car.

If you see a dog in a vehicle in distress please contact Police on 101 or contact the local dog warden or the RSPCA on 0300 123 4999.

Your local Dog Warden may be contacted on Andover 01264 368463 (Monday – Thursday 8.30 – 5.00 and Friday 8.30 – 4.30).  Out of working hours please ring 01264 368000.

St George’s Night Dinner – report

IMG_0705The St George’s Night Dinner, held in the Village Hall on Saturday 23rd April, was a great success with 50 people enjoying a superb and extremely delicious dinner of Greenfield sausages, mash and peas followed by Monxton Apple & Blackberry Crumble with cream – all beautifully home-made  by the wonderful organisers. All washed down with excellent Berry Bros wines and quality ales.

We had a challenging and thought-provoking quiz on all things England, Shakespeare and St George, which caused much chatter and debate throughout the evening.

There has been some lovely feedback saying how delicious the food was and what a good, fun night it was – and everyone’s expectations were exceeded.

The total profit from the evening was £465.60, which was split equally between the Walk The Walk breast cancer charity and the Renovation Fund for Monxton & Amport Village Hall (£232.80 for each charity).

The plan is to hold a similar event next year, so put Saturday 22nd April 2017 in your diaries for a bigger and better event!

Sky Lanterns – Warning

At approx 19.15 this evening (Easter Sunday 27 Mar) a sky lantern (with burner in full flame) appeared over the houses between Chalkpit Lane, High Street and Abbotts Ann Road. It was very low and a struggling to gain height; it dipped down out of sight almost immediately then, after a few moments reappeared struggling to gain height. Fortunately it then gained height, and did not crash again into one of the thatched properties along the High Street or the lower part of Chalkpit Lane, before sailing off North East. The lantern was white with a large red heart on one side.

Such lanterns pose a danger to thatched properties, as well as livestock. Please, please DO NOT light such things.
