Monxton v Amport Soccer Match

From Marcus Tebbutt-Ford, Organiser.

soccerIt is that time of year already. We have had 12 months to dine out on our wonderful soccer win against Amport last year.  I was never sure how well received it might actually be when I came up with the idea but based on this message back from Amport Parish Council at the time, better than expected

“Congratulations on an excellent ‘fixture’ on Saturday – it was exactly the right sort of ‘community event’, full of amazing commitment from the players and great fun for the ‘crowd’….”

I have had a lot of requests concerning the return match in recent weeks and we decided that this year Amport would lay down the challenge to us. As you may have seen, this is now done and a date has been set for Saturday 12th March.

Expect the rules to stay much the same, that is two halves of twenty minutes, at least one female team member on the pitch at all times and rolling substitutions with the “third half” in the winning team’s pub.  No ringers.

So who has the wherewithal to give it another go? Who’s ready to put their balls on the line a second time? Ready to be shown up by their wife again? To manage the team from the sideline and coordinate a bunch of decrepit bar-flies into a mean-spleen winning machine once more? To stand shivering by the refreshments yelling words of vague encouragement & biting scorn? Willing to spend Monday wrapped in bandages and full of pain killers?

Please let me know your early thoughts on availability and here’s hoping that we can get a couple of practice kick-abouts before the day, much as we did last year.

The ‘Mucky Duckers’ have it all to lose and do not be under any false illusions – Amport are frothing at the mouth for revenge!

Please email Marcus at tebbutford@gmail.com

PS – I understand from Michael and Rosie that not all jerseys were returned after the match last year.  Please could you dig through forgotten wash piles and garden rags so that we can ensure that all 2016 team members have the chance to play in the village colours once more.

SUFFRAGETTE

Suffragette tracks the story of the foot soldiers of the early feminist movement, women who, in their struggle to gain the vote, were forced underground to pursue a dangerous game of cat and mouse with an increasingly brutal State.  Director Sarah Gavron has chosen to tell their story by concentrating, not on the famous figures involved (though Meryl Streep puts in an appearance as Emmeline Pankhurst) but on the fictional Maud Watts (Carey Mulligan), a working-class laundress who lives in a tiny flat with her husband and co-worker Sonny (Ben Whishaw) and their young son.  When a friend (Anne-Marie Duff) can’t testify to parliament about the plight of working women on account of being beaten up by her husband, Maud takes her place. And the opportunity to have her voice heard unlocks an anger which finds release in activism, but comes at quite a price.

Andover Station Car Park Temporary Closure

Andover Station Car Park will be closed from 18th January 2016 for an expected 20 weeks. A new single deck car park will be constructed by South West Trains at Andover Rail Station to accommodate an additional 200 car parking spaces. Currently, the car park is full on average by 9am on a daily basis and the new additional spaces will assist with the demand for car parking at the station.

The works will necessitate the closure of the existing car park for approximately 20 week period and passengers will need to find alternative car park during this time. Both Shepherds Spring Lane and the Chantry Centre town car parks have capacity to accommodate additional cars and are a 15 minute walk from the station and the new West Street car park that is a 10 minute walk.

Below is the leaflet giving more information on alternative parking.

An easy & green way to raise funds for your Village Hall

GE_SwtichForGoodLogoLockUP_DarkGrey_RGB-2-300x139We have teamed up with the lovely folk at Good Energy to help raise funds for the Monxton & Amport Village Hall makeover – AND to encourage you make the switch to cleaner, greener 100% renewable electricity.

WHY SHOULD I SWITCH?

For every household and customer that swaps, then Good Energy will pay £25 to Monxton & Amport Village Hall to help fund the make-over and renovations.  If you have a business that switches to Good Energy then they will pay the Village Hall up to £120 depending on the size of business.

Don’t forget that you are also then helping the environment by buying and using clean, renewable energy, which will help lower pollution, lower your carbon footprint, divest from fossil fuels and help to ensure there is no market for fracking (a very real threat in Monxton & Amport).

HOW DO I SWITCH?

Switching to Good Energy couldn’t be simpler. There’s no disruption to your electricity or gas supply and you don’t need a new meter or someone to rewire your home. All Good Energy needs are a few details and five minutes of your time. You can leave the rest to them.

SWITCH NOW!!

If you call Good Energy to switch (0800 254 0004) then please ensure you quote ‘Monxton Village Hall’ and Affiliate Code GE2331.

WHO CAN SWITCH?

Clearly we’d LOVE every household and business in Monxton & Amport to be using cleaner, greener electricity – and not just because it will help to fund the Village Hall. But this affiliate scheme certainly is not limited to just local residents. In fact anyone and everyone can switch to Good Energy and if they use the links or quote ‘Monxton Village Hall’ then we will earn more money! It’s that simple! So please encourage EVERYONE you know to switch!

WHO ARE GOOD ENERGY?

Monxton & Amport Village Hall is proud to work with award-winning 100% renewable electricity Good Energy. By making the switch you can support a cleaner, greener future, help to tackle climate change and protect the beautiful environment that surrounds us.

Good Energy has been providing homes with 100% renewable electricity for over 15 years, matching their customers’ electricity use over the course of a year with power from British sunshine, wind and rain.

The renewable electricity it supplies comes from its own wind and solar farms around the UK and also from a growing community of more than 1,000 independent generators who are making electricity for themselves.

You can trust where your electricity comes from when you’re with Good Energy and you can also trust in its great customer service too.

Good Energy has been voted top of the Which? energy customer satisfaction survey for three out of the last four years, won Martin Lewis’ MoneySavingExpert polls for customer service and has consistently topped Ethical Consumer’s survey as the best green electricity supplier.

Switching is green and simple. Sign up quoting ‘Monxton Village Hall’ or Affiliate Code GE2331. Go online at  http://www.goodenergy.co.uk/affiliates/monxton-village-hall or call 0800 254 0004.

Good Energy reckons the electricity you use at home accounts for around 24% of your carbon footprint – and electricity consumption accounts for around 45% of the energy carbon footprint of the average home.

To calculate the contribution domestic electricity consumption makes to your annual carbon footprint, Good Energy first looked at the national breakdown of per capita emissions. They then tallied the total of Domestic and Transport emissions and calculated the reduction that would occur if ‘Domestic Electricity’ resulted in zero carbon emissions.

Car Crash Abbotts Ann Road

P1020720 P1020721 (640x480) P1020724On Sunday night (13th December) a person from Little Anne was driving far too fast down the hill into Monxton and skidded across the road, hit the bollard removing it from the ground and then smashing against the wall of Field House, damaging many tiles. The car is a write-off.

The recently-installed bollards proved very effective in reducing the speed of the vehicle, and saving both the wall and the driver from serious damage.

The police and an ambulance attended but fortunately there were no serious injuries.

Monxton Parish Council will now seek to have the bollard re-installed and also add further bollards for more protection.

We are all concerned about speeding drivers through Monxton, so if you can volunteer your time for the Community Speedwatch Scheme it would be very helpful. Please contact Alan Barbone for more information.
