Stargaze Challenge 9 & 10 June 2017

This weekend, 9-10 June, Shaun and Lorraine Pullen will complete the 2017 Brown Dog Challenge, raising money for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. This is a walk of 52 miles in 24 hours, through the night, with a climb and descent greater than Snowdon and Scafell Pike combined, and involves completing the Herriot Way in Yorkshire – normally done over a 4 day period. This is a tough challenge for a great cause. Amport & Monxton Fete: Saturday 8 July 2017

The Green, Amport: 12 – 4pm

Fete planning is underway and with lots of exciting things lined up it’s shaping up to be a festival of fun for all of the family.

We have entertainment throughout the day, with gundogs from Mullinscote, a hawk flying display from the Hawk Conservancy, tractor and pony rides, a classic car show and brass band. The village competitions return, with the horticultural show, an art competition, the great village bake off and the Fete games.   Yummy food will be served from the tea tent and our fully stocked fete bar will keep your thirst quenched.

We have stalls aplenty: smack the rat, a human fruit-machine, golf masters, welly wanging, assault course and much more. Our bric-a-brac, books, craft, accessories and toy stalls are grateful for any donations and ‘donation stations’ will be popping up in the village bus shelters soon.

As usual, we will be having an after fete party, with more details coming soon. Needless to say, there will be feasting and merriment aplenty.

Supper on the Green: 7.30pm til late

Supper on the Green will once again be a fabulous evening with a delicious hog roast, fully-stocked bar, and live music and dancing for your entertainment. We are on the hunt for prizes for the fete raffle and auction, so if you have anything that you would so kind to donate we would be incredibly appreciative. All funds raised go to our local churches, school and community projects. Tickets are £15 for adults and £8 for children under 11 years of age. To buy tickets click here – www.buytickets.at/amportandmonxtonfete or contact kate.cavalier@gmail.com / 07919 036308

And other offers of help much appreciated: We always need volunteers for an hour or more on the day to help out on stalls, and people for putting up and take down the tents and marquees.

Please get in touch with kate.cavalier@gmail.com if you can help in any way, for tickets or for more information.

Car Theft Prevention

This is a message sent via Hampshire Alert. This information has been sent on behalf of Hampshire Constabulary. Message sent by Storm Perrott (Police, PCSO, Test Valley District)

At this time of year we see a rise in the number of theft from motor vehicle incidents, particularly from beauty spot car parks.

Please see the following information for crime prevention advice

  • When leaving your car, close all windows and lock your car.
  • Upon locking your vehicle try your car door to ensure it is actually locked.
  • Park your car in an attended car park.
  • Look for public car parks approved by the Park Mark scheme.
  • When parking at home, use your garage. If you don’t have a garage, park in a well-lit area.
  • Don’t leave anything on display in your vehicle.
  • Take all your personal possessions with you.
  • Remove sat nav holders and visible sat nav ring marks from windscreens.
  • Leave the glove box open to show there’s nothing inside.
  • Fit an alarm or immobiliser to your car.
  • Record the details of your property on the Immobilise website (see right).
  • Do not store your car’s documents in the car.
  • Secure your wheels using locking wheel nuts.
  • More information about alarms can be found on the Thatcham and Sold Secure websites.

Village Clean Up – thank you!

A great turn out today with at least 25 villagers spending a few hours helping to clean our lovely village. Signs are now sparkling and the greenery around them has been cut back, verges and hedges have been trimmed, litter has been collected, and the bridge by the village green is now clear of ivy. Quite a few trees have had the ivy cut back on them, and the area around the village hall has been tidied, weeded and swept.

All in all the village looks much better this evening for everyone’s hard work. So thank you to those who came to help. A well-earned bacon butty and cuppa was enjoyed afterwards in the village hall.

And thank you to all of you who keep the village looking good on a regular basis – whether it’s litter-picking whilst out walking, or keeping your properties looking great.

We plan to have an autumn clean-up as well – which will also involve planting bulbs and trees. to ensure our village looks wonderful for years to come.

Monxton Spring Clean Sunday 7 May

Sunday 7th May 2017
10am to 12 noon

It’s time for a Spring Clean in Monxton so let’s all get together and make our beautiful village look great for summer.

Meet at the Village Green at 10am and we shall provide rubbish bags, gloves and waste paper ‘grabbers’.

We also need:

  • buckets, sponges/cloths, scrubbing brushes for cleaning signs and/or benches
  • garden shears, hedge trimmers & secateurs
  • lots of willing volunteers

We are compiling a list of jobs to do, but if you have a particular job you’d like to do, or you think should be added then please email monxtonmatters@gmail.com

Jobs so far:

  • All sign posts cleaned
  • Litter picking
  • Hedge or verge trimming
  • Ivy cut from trees, bridge, walls etc
  • Village Hall exterior to be tidied
  • Village green area to be tidied by the electricity sub-station

Please let us know if you’re coming so we know many to cater for. In return for your efforts hot and cold drinks, and bacon butties will be provided for all helpers in the Village Hall from 12noon.

We would love to see as many people helping as possible, and children and families are most welcome.

THANK YOU!
