Historic Traffic Incidents

From Ray Alborough, Highways Engineer, TVBC

During the last decade (period commencing 1/6/2003 to 31/5/2013) the personal injury and traffic accidents in Monxton are as follows:
There have been four collisions in Monxton, resulting in 4 slight injuries and one serious injury. The locations are spread around the village such that there is not a pattern and therefore can only be regarded as random.

21/4/04: High Street – Moped negotiating right hand bend, rider lost control on oil in carriageway, one slight injury.
17/1/05: Abbotts Ann Road – Two cars collided head on, one slight injury.
10/5/11: Abbotts Ann Road – Two cars collided head on, one serious and one slight injury.
25/1/13: Green lane – Car overtaking cyclist, clipped cycle, one slight injury.

In the dead of night

Report from a High Street resident
At 1.03am this morning (24 July) an HGV lorry was trying to squeeze past the Mucky Duck. Residents were woken by the commotion and several men looked like they were trying to move cars or find away through. The lorry had all hazard lights on …… Why was it here?

This Parker Steel lorry below was photographed on Friday 12 July at 4pm, blocking the High Street and causing traffic disruption. The second photo shows people on the street trying to direct traffic.

Lorry at Sunnybank 19 July

Friday 19 July at 10.15pm
Reported by John Chaffey, Sunnybank
“A Nordstrom lorry drove right into Sunnybank and drove up towards the play area and then back up the close 2 or 3 times before turning and going back out, lights flashing and of course reversing beepers going.  It was massive –  juggernaut size.  Tried to get picture but it was too dark.  The new ‘No HGV’ sign is too small, in the wrong place and not illuminated at night.”

Village Hall Bookings Secretary

If you would like to contribute something for both Amport and Monxton villages, and get to meet people locally, please consider joining the village hall management group.

We need a new committee member (from Amport preferably), and also someone to take over the post of Bookings Secretary.

These positions are voluntary but the Bookings Secretary does receive a small percentage payment, based on the bookings. There is a small group of us already who manage the hall, so there is plenty of support.  We would really appreciate some extra help, although generally there is not a great deal to do.

Anyone who feels that they would like to consider pitching in for your community, please call either Linda Peters 01264 710403 or Sarah Norton 01264 710333.

Many thanks – we look forward to hearing from you.
