Alpine & Penchard – Manor Farm Residential Development

As many villagers are aware, there have been ongoing discussions with Alpine Group and Penchard for some time regarding their move from Manor Farm, Abbotts Ann to new premises.

We are hopefully moving towards a potential solution. This involves the removal of the existing industrial uses and replacement by a modest amount of residential development which recognises the sites rural location whilst is sufficient to fund the necessary relocation.

Monxton Parish Council has received a request from Alpine to share their evolving thoughts, and seek comments on key issues and approach at the next Parish Council meeting on the 10th April at the village hall (starts at 7.30pm), which has been accepted. At this stage the discussion is likely to focus on issues of principle rather than scheme detail.

We, therefore, invite all villagers to attend this meeting to hear first-hand from the Alpine team and ask any questions regarding their plans.

Monxton Parish Council will be supporting the proposal as it currently stands, however, we are very interested in the views of villagers especially those most affected and we urge you to attend the meeting.

Mike Cleugh
Chairman
Monxton Parish Council

Fly Tipping

Fly-tipping is the illegal dumping of waste and is a criminal offence.

Examples of fly-tipping include:

  • dumping waste on land where there is no waste management licence, including public highways
  • leaving rubbish or waste outside household waste recycling centres
  • giving your waste to someone else to fly-tip
  • allowing waste to be dumped on your own property

The Police and local authorities take action against any householder or business who illegally disposes of their waste, or who does not ensure that their waste is collected by a registered waste service firm.

You are legally responsible for any household waste produced on your property or where you live. This responsibility is called your “duty of care”.

You face an unlimited fine if your waste ends up fly-tipped and you cannot show that you took reasonable steps to prevent it.

Report fly-tipping to Test Valley Borough Council on 01264 368000

Thatch Fire 3 March

As many of you know, very sadly Well Cottage and Westwell Cottage on Monxton High Street suffered terrible damage last night, Saturday 3 March with a major thatch fire.

Fifteen fire appliances from Hampshire and Wiltshire with over 70 fire crews, as well as ambulances and Police attended the scene and worked tirelessly through the night. The fire crews did the most incredible job saving the neighbouring cottages, especially Pound Cottage which is immediately adjacent to Well Cottage. Significant efforts were made by the fire crews to salvage property from within the building.

Fortunately, no-one was hurt in the incident.

Adult Guitar Workshops for Beginners

Have you ever fancied playing the guitar but never got round to it? James Littleworth is planning a series of workshops, bringing people together in a relaxed, fun and social environment, where you can learn the basics of guitar (and even take it to the next level of ROCKISM!) with friends, without any pressure, and most importantly having a good time! These will be exclusively adult workshops – and you are most welcome to bring along a little alcohol!

The location for these workshops will most likely be the Monxton village hall, although this is to be confirmed. Possible days and times for these workshops include Tuesdays 5:20 – 6:20pm, Wednesdays 5:30 – 6:30pm, Fridays 4 – 5pm and Saturdays 4 – 5pm, or 5 – 6pm.

The cost will be £10 the hour’s session. If this is something you’re interested in, please send James an email with your preferred availability to: james.littleworth@me.com

Event: No Finer Life by Graham Harvey – 21 February

Wednesday 21st February 2018, 7.00pm – 9.30pm
Home Farm Barn, Farleigh House, Farleigh Wallop, Basingstoke, RG25 2HT

http://www.cprehampshire.org.uk/events/item/2483-no-finer-life-by-graham-harvey

Graham Harvey, for twenty years the Agricultural Story Editor of The Archers and writer of more than 600 episodes, brings to the stage the true tale of an unlikely Cotswold hero and an enduring romance.

No Finer Life is set in the Oxfordshire countryside at the end of World War Two, rich in tradition and full of vivid, memorable characters. But this is no nostalgic, bucolic ramble.

This is Elizabeth’s story…

What inspires a young Somerset land girl to set off in search of a best-selling author in the darkest days of war? The story moves between the 1940s and the current day, reflecting that the love of the countryside, the need to protect it and issues of national identity, are timeless.

“When peace is won, we fight for the land we love”…

To book your tickets, please click here.

Graham Harvey will be taking part in an after-show conversation – included in the ticket price of £20 – where he will discuss the issues in the play…and all things Ambridge!

The show features new live music composed and performed by Alastair Collingwood, who has written scores for numerous theatre shows, including Betty in London’s West End, directed by Kathy Burke, and Cora with Dana Gillespie, which also toured the USA. His TV credits include the title music for French and Saunders (BBC1), Mad About Alice (BBC 1), Rhona (BBC 2), Vanessa’s Real Lives (ITV 1) and How Clean Is Your House? (Channel 4), amongst many others.

By kind permission of The Viscount Lymington, and with all profits going to CPRE Hampshire, working to protect the countryside. No Finer Life is a Dogwood Productions event.

Drinks from 7.00pm. Performance 7.30pm – 8.45pm. Talk and Q&A 8.45pm – 9.30pm.

How to book

To buy tickets, please visit the Eventbrite booking page, or call CPRE Hampshire on 01962 841897 or email the Administrator, Denise Messenger.

Dogs & Footpaths

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE will ALL dog owners and walkers clear up after their dogs when walking around our parish paths and lanes. That means bagging up the waste and PUTTING IT IN A BIN – not hanging it on a tree or fence, as has been seen far too many times!
