Defibrillator Demonstration – 3 February

Defibrillator Demonstration – Wednesday 3rd February, 7.30pm, Monxton and Amport Village Hall

defibResponding to requests from the community the Amport and Monxton Community Charity have used proceeds from our successful village fetes and have purchased a defibrillator which will be stored in the locked cabinet on the side of The Hawk Inn, to be used in emergencies. Where appropriate, the ambulance service will give the cabinet access code to those in the area who make an emergency call.

Every minute that passes for a patient in cardiac arrest without access to a defibrillator equates to a 10% reduction in survival time. Areas with a dedicated defibrillator programme have been shown to report survival rates of up to 74%, much higher than in areas without one.

The defibrillator is very user friendly and you don’t need training to use it. However, we have arranged for a demonstration from Steve Cartwright who is the Community Liasion & Training Officer for Public Access Defibrillators from the South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust. He will show how the defibrillator machine works and when it should be used.

This demonstration will be held in the village hall on Wednesday 3rd February from 7.30pm. If you are interested in attending please let Kate know, so that we have an idea of how many chairs to put out! kate.cavalier@gmail.com

Scams & Fraud Awareness

Monday 18th January, Village Hall, 7.30pm

Those of you who read these Neighbourhood Watch alerts will know that scams and fraud feature as frequently as burglaries and thefts.

In response to requests from a number of Monxton residents for more information about the variety of scams; telephone, email and doorstep, currently going around, a presentation by Hampshire Police has been arranged.

This will take place in Monxton and Amport Village Hall on Monday 18th January, starting at 7.30pm. and will be followed by the scheduled Monxton Parish Council meeting.

The object will be to make residents more aware of the types of scam and the approaches and tricks employed by the villains and to help you avoid becoming victims yourselves.

As well as a presentation by our Police Community Support Officer, the session will include time for questions and feedback from residents.

This should be a valuable aid to our ongoing fight against local crime. All are invited and hopefully as many of you who can will take advantage of this opportunity.

SUFFRAGETTE

Suffragette tracks the story of the foot soldiers of the early feminist movement, women who, in their struggle to gain the vote, were forced underground to pursue a dangerous game of cat and mouse with an increasingly brutal State.  Director Sarah Gavron has chosen to tell their story by concentrating, not on the famous figures involved (though Meryl Streep puts in an appearance as Emmeline Pankhurst) but on the fictional Maud Watts (Carey Mulligan), a working-class laundress who lives in a tiny flat with her husband and co-worker Sonny (Ben Whishaw) and their young son.  When a friend (Anne-Marie Duff) can’t testify to parliament about the plight of working women on account of being beaten up by her husband, Maud takes her place. And the opportunity to have her voice heard unlocks an anger which finds release in activism, but comes at quite a price.

Good Energy reckons the electricity you use at home accounts for around 24% of your carbon footprint – and electricity consumption accounts for around 45% of the energy carbon footprint of the average home.

To calculate the contribution domestic electricity consumption makes to your annual carbon footprint, Good Energy first looked at the national breakdown of per capita emissions. They then tallied the total of Domestic and Transport emissions and calculated the reduction that would occur if ‘Domestic Electricity’ resulted in zero carbon emissions.
